Re: Performance Increase
Dear Chuck,
Just a quick letter to show my appreciation for your courteous, prompt
and thorough service. Having my props precisely reconditioned by you
has increased my cruise speed by 4 knots, from 22 knots up to 26 and
my top end up to almost 30 knots; wow was I impressed! What’s more
impressive, at least to my wife, is how much quieter the cabin is
while underway. At cruising speed the cabin was so noisy before the
props were done that no one was comfortable staying below. Now if the
weather turns on us the gals are more than happy to be below.
Obviously with the improved noise level came an improved feel at the
helm and greatly reduced vibration. In case anyone is curious, these
performance improvements are on my 40’ Sea Ray Sedan Bridge sport
yacht. The surprising fact here is that I really struggled with the
thought of spending a few bucks on reconditioning a set of props that
looked just perfectly fine, not even a nick. Furthermore the boats
performance seemed perfectly acceptable before.
Yup I’m impressed!
Thanks sincerely,
Bob & Sandy Strohm
Chuck Gray:
Chuck, I am so
happy with the job you did on the props of my 1995 Fortier 33 foot
downeast boat.
When I came to
you the boat had some major vibrations caused by hitting a submerged
log early in the season. You went to work quickly and the performance
of my boat is now outstanding and probably as good as new. I can't
remember when the boat has performed better.
It is a pleasure
doing business with you.
Thanks and best
wishes.

Dear Chuck:
I just wanted to drop you a short note to say thanks for a great
job you did on the props. You came highly recommended, and I can see
why. My boat has never ran so smooth and vibration free. Even though
mercury had us cut the props down, I think I may have even gained a
1/2 knot at my cruise. You also solved the problem at WOT with uneven
Rpm's. I never thought this could have been caused by the
propellers. Now both engines are running at 4800 rpm's at WOT and my
sync is dead on.
Thanks again for all your help and fast turn around time. You have
made me a true believer of Prop Scan
Sincerely,
Dom DiGennaro

Hey Chuck,
Just thought I would drop a line to you. It looks like I picked up
2 1/2 knots on the prop recondition and slight pitch change. Boat
is cruising @ 20 knots fully loaded with fuel.
Thanks again!
Regards,
Bill Foley
Chuck,
Just wanted to drop you a note
complimenting you on the great job you did with my props. As you
stated my fuel consumption has dropped 1-2 gallons per hour and no
performance was lost whatsoever ! What was even more surprising was
how smooth they are now. There noticeable difference at both low and
high speeds and the boat runs at 27kts. smoother than it has before.
Excellent work and thanks for a job well done !

Just want to say Thanks for the great
job on my props. After 3 years of chasing vibrations and shaft
wobble the boat is smooth and faster. Three years ago I had the
props done by a local prop shop with a good reputation but the
shafts still wobbled at the packing gland and had Bad vibrations. So
I spent two winters redoing everything else with no change, this
winter I gave the props to you and the problems are gone and it is
faster then ever. I am a believer in Prop Scan and will not bring
them any where else.
Thanks Again

Chuck,
I finally got the chance to get everything commissioned and we went
out yesterday for a test run.... Vibration was almost non-existent.
And I picked up a knot or two at cruising speed (3100-3200 RPM, ran
18-19 knots). My overall RPMs sat right at 4000, which is what they
are supposed to be (4000-4400).
I look forward to testing the other props next year....
Thanks,
Lawrence S. Slifkin
Chuck, To get the Boat to run any
smoother I'd have to shut off the engines. Charlie.
Chuck,
I just launched "Almost Home" and took her from Norwalk to her
summer dock at Stamford. As you can imagine I couldn't wait to get out
of the Norwalk river and open up the throttle to see how the new
propeller performed. Once past the power plant I did just that and was
amazed to see the RPM climb up to 3,000! As I related to you, before
the new prop I could not get it up over 2,300 RPM. I did not have my
GPS on board but I estimate that I am also getting 3-4 knots more
speed. The best part however is that there is not a drop of smoke
coming out of the exhaust due to the engine trying to make RPM. I
guess I can say goodbye to my old black transom and the daily
scrubbing I used to do. I also can't wait to see how my fuel economy
improves!
I wanted to thank you for your help in solving my problems with the
old prop. Given the manufacturer went out of business we didn't have
any weight or pitch information to work with but you were able to do
some research and networking to find out what this old Bruno should be
pitched at. The result has far exceeded my expectations and you did it
in record time. I will be sure to refer anyone with similar problems
to you or be happy to speak to any prospective customers trying to
solve their own "soot on the transom" issues. Thanks a million.

Hi Chuck,
I knew something was different the 1st
few times I ran boat this year but it was hard to verify since I am
normally on the bridge. I asked my wife if the hatches were rattling
and she said no and there was much less noise in cockpit. I also
picked up 1 knot at 100 rpm below cruise (which is a lot for a 14 knot
boat). I am really impressed with the difference in performance
especially since the initial scan we did not show any major problems.
This process really works and you can
use me as a reference any time.
Best regards,
